Childhood of our Prophet’s glorious life

Childhood is the most joyful and memorable part of a person’s life. It includes carefree days, playing, laughing, and enjoying with friends and siblings. But the childhood of our Greatest Noble Prophet’s glorious life was unique and different from usual. Childhood of his glorious life was also decorated with the pearls of miracles as well as with the precious teachings for his followers (Ummah).

The King of Prophecy was an Orphan

The last messenger of Allah was born an orphan. His father Hazrat Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him), had died when Bibi Amina was two months pregnant. According to the Islamic Scholars, the reason for sending Prophet Muhammad ﷺ as an orphan was that Allah wanted to teach and train his messenger by Himself alone.

Treat orphans nicely

The Noble Messenger taught us to love and help orphans. He said: “Among the houses of Muslims, the best one is where an orphan is treated nicely whereas, among the houses of Muslims, the worst one is where an orphan is treated badly.”

Prophet’s amazing Suckling Period

The respected mother of Rasool Allah ﷺ fed her noble infant for a short period. Then a maid, Suwaiba fed him for some days. Afterward, the midwife Bibi Haleema Saadia took over this responsibility according to the Arabia traditions.

Bibi Haleema came to Makkah in search of an infant breastfeeding job. At that time, their tribe was suffering from famine. She had no breast milk to feed her infant Abdullah because their animals also had become weak and produced no milk. But as soon as she took the last Prophet with her and started breastfeeding him, instantly her breasts filled up with milk.

The beloved Prophet suckled the milk from one side and left the other side for his foster brother Abdullah. Then Bibi Haleema breastfed both infants sufficiently. Her husband also checked their camel teats and found them full of milk. They drank milk up to their satisfaction and slept.

After three days, they started traveling back to their tribe. Bibi Haleema took Noble Prophet with her to ride on their donkey. It prostrated towards the Holy Kaaba and then raised its head towards the sky as if thanking Allah for giving this chance to serve His Prophet.

Earlier it was a very weak and slow ride, but with the blessing of the noble Prophet, it became the fastest and the strongest among all animals of the caravan.

They brought Prophet Muhammad ﷺ with them during the famine, but their animals got healthier and full of milk, whereas the animals of other people were still suffering weakness and lack of milk. By the grace of the blissful arrival of Allah’s Greatest Messenger,  their poverty faded away swiftly.

Persistent Shade of a Cloud on Prophet

The midwife Bibi Haleema Saadia used to take special care of Prophetﷺ. She used not to let him go farther from the house. One afternoon, the King of all Prophets went out among the herd of sheep with his foster sister Shaema. Bibi Haleema went out to look for him and found him out with her. She got displeased with her daughter for taking him out in such intense hot weather.

Shaema replied, “O’ Mother! He was not feeling any heat because a cloud was giving a persistent shadow on him. When he stops, the cloud stops, and when he moves, the cloud starts moving along. It was happening till we reached here.”

It is a beautiful miracle of our greatest Prophet which shows how much Allah takes care of his most beloved Messenger.

The Magnificent event of Prophet’s chest expansion

When Prophet Muhammad ﷺ became two years old, then the event of his chest opening (Shaq-e-Sadar) by angels happened. Bibi Haleema said, “One day Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was outside among sheep with his foster brother Abdullah in the back of our houses.

Suddenly Abdullah rushed to us and said, “Two persons in a white dress came to my Qureshi brother, and they made him lie down and opened his chest.”

Hearing this, we hastened towards him and saw him standing with a changed complexion. We hugged him and asked about what had happened.

He told us that two people wearing white dresses came to me and made me lie down, and when they opened my chest. They took out a blood clot and said, “This was the portion of satan (shaitan) within you.” Then they filled mercy and affection and stitched the opening.

After listening to that strange happening, we brought him back home. My husband feared that the child was frightened. We must send him back to his mother. So I brought him back to his mother and told her about the story. She said, “By Allah! Satan has nothing to do with him, and my son has great glory.”

(al-Mawahib-ul-ludunniya wa sharh-uz-zurqani, vol.1, pg.279)

Take a note that, the expansion of the blessed chest of the greatest Prophet Muhammad ﷺ occurred four times during his physical life. The first one was at two years of age. The second was in ten years. The third was at the age of forty years, and the fourth time happened on the night of Ascension (shab-e-meraj).

The Moon was a Toy of Prophet’s childhood

Hazrat Sayyiduna Abbas narrated that he said to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, “O’ Messenger of Allah! I got convinced of Islam by the signs of your prophecy. I saw you (in your crib during your infancy) talking with the moon, and when you point with your finger, it used to bend in the direction of your finger.”

The King of the universe replied, “I used to talk with the moon, and it talked with me and used to dandle me from crying. When the moon prostrates under the throne of Allah,  I used to hear the sound of its glorification.”

Death of Beloved Mother

When Prophet Muhammad ﷺ became six years old, his mother Bibi Aminah traveled to Madina with him and her maid Umme Aiman. She wanted to meet some of her in-laws or wanted to visit her husband’s grave (according to some narrators). They stayed in Madina for a month and then returned to Makkah. During this traveling, Bibi Amina fell ill. Her illness became worse until this greatest mother of the world died and was buried in the village of Abwa.

al-Mawahibul-ludunniya wa sharh-az-zurqani, vol.1, pg.308

The separation of his beloved mother was a deep trauma for the him in his orphaned childhood. He used to miss his mother and the days he spent with her in his life. May Allah rest the souls of the Prophet’s Parents in Paradise. Aameen.

Umme Aiman brought him to Makkah and in the breeding of his grandfather Abdul Muttalib. When Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was eight years, his grandfather also died. Then his uncle Hazrat Abu Talib nurtured him. He brought up his noble nephew with all his love and care and treated him preferred to his sons and himself.
